The Benton Lady Panthers swept the Sheridan Lady Yellowjackets Thursday night 3-0 (25-19, 25-15, 25-18).
“We’ve had a good week,” coach Brandy Chumley said. “We played well against Texarkana and we played well again against Sheridan.”
In game one, junior Erin Jackson and senior Kristen Ryan had a block. The Lady Panthers had eight kills including four from senior Emily Morgan. Senior Hayley Ferguson had two and junior Alex Williams had one kill. Jackson also had a kill.
Junior Courtland Kaufholtz had an ace.
“We were really big at the net,” Chumley said. “We had some really big blocks and we played well together. We moved the ball around well.
“We are playing really well as a team.”
In game two, the Lady Panthers had nine kills including three from Williams. Ferguson and Morgan had two kills. Ryan and sophomore Allison Reynolds had one kill.
Williams, Kaufholtz and junior Alicia Sandage all had aces in game two.
In game three, Benton had four blocks. Williams had a solo block and Ryan and WIlliams had two assisted blocks. Jackson also had an assisted block.
Ferguson and Sandage had an ace each.
The win over Sheridan guarantees Benton the No. 1 seed in the state tournament and at least a share of the conference championship.
“Depending on what happens Tuesday, we may have the title by ourselves,” Chumley said. “It depends on how we finish Tuesday and how Sheridan finishes.”
Benton will face Little Rock McClellan for Senior Night at the Benton Arena while Sheridan will play Lake Hamilton.
“If Lake Hamilton beats Sheridan, then we will have the title by ourselves,” Chumley said. “Lake Hamilton has three losses, so it depends on what Sheridan does.”
With the No. 1 seed, Benton will play Tuesday Oct. 25 at noon at Mountain Home High School. There will be an official meeting on Wednesday to determine the final tournament schedule and standings.
