J D Caldwell, 91, passed away Friday, Nov. 11, at Saline Memorial Hospice House in Bryant. He was born Nov. 3, 1920, in Lonsdale to the late Walter and Dora Caldwell. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Fletcher and Toy Caldwell; one sister, Harriet Harris; and one grandson, Roy Dee Pruitt.
Mr. Caldwell was a member of First Baptist Church of Benton and served as an usher for many years. He was a World War II veteran who served under Gen. George Patton in Europe. He received six medals, a Purple Heart, four Battle Stars, and a Bronze Star. He retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. in 1983 after 37 years of service.
He is survived by his wife, Audrey Caldwell; three daughters, Janis Pruitt and husband Elton, Delaine Baughtman and husband Frank, and Belinda Simmons and husband Rick; one brother, Walter “Pinky” Caldwell; seven grandchildren, Angela Pruitt, Tammy Palmer, Elton Mark Pruitt, Doug Baughtman, Erin Baughtman, Trey Baughtman and Callie Simmons; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 14, in the chapel of Roller-Ballard Funeral Home (315-4047) with Dr. Rick Grant officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Park in Alexander.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13, at the funeral home.
