Myka Bono Sample has announced her candidacy for the office of Saline County Circuit Clerk. She is seeking the Republican Party's nomination in the May preferential primary election.
Sample is new to the political arena, but is no stranger to the operation of the circuit clerk's office. While working in the Saline County Circuit Clerk's office for three years, she was involved in all aspects of the office.
When her husband’s occupation moved them to Northwest Arkansas, she used her experience and obtained employment with the Benton County Circuit Clerk’s office where she worked for four years. While in Benton County, she served as a supervisor, then for the last two years as office manager for 21 employees.
“If elected to the office of Saline County Circuit Clerk, I will tirelessly work for the good of the people of Saline County. I will be a full-time circuit clerk, and I will not use the office for self-promotion. I want to ensure that the citizens of Saline County will be able to access all public records for individual research as well as business-related transactions.
"I understand the importance of the role of the clerk’s office in the smooth functioning of the Circuit Court, and I will put my experience and knowledge to ensure that the people of Saline County are well served."
Sample was born and raised in Saline County and graduated from Bauxite High School. She attended Garland County Community College on a basketball scholarship and attended Henderson State University. Sample has been a volunteer basketball coach at the Boys & Girls Club for seven years and the Bauxite Mini-Miners for five years.
She was inducted into the Bauxite Hall of Fame in 2007.
She is a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. She is currently employed by the Saline County Circuit Court Juvenile Division as a certified juvenile office.
Sample is the daughter of the late Jiggs Bono and Judy Bono of Benton and the daughter-in-law of the late Truman Sample and Jackie Sample also of Benton. She has been married to Billy Sample for 24 years. They are the parents of three sons: Matt, Aaron and Briar. Matt attended Crowder Junior College and Rogers State University on a baseball scholarship and is now playing professional baseball in the Arizona Diamondbacks Minor League Organization.
