Charles Preston “Nutt” Phillips, 81, of Benton died Friday August 10, 2012.
He was born February 14, 1931 in Malvern, Ark. to Edith Cunningham Phillips and Ewell T. Phillips.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Howell, Bernie and Gervis Phillips. He was also preceded in death by his brother-in-law Steve Golding.
He was a member of Second Baptist Church in Malvern and was attending Ten Mile Missionary Baptist Church in Lonsdale. He was a lifelong businessman, builder and developer in Saline County. He was involved in many community activities including the Saline Home Builders Association, where he was a founding member and the Benton Chamber of Commerce as a past President. He was also a Member on the Board of Directors at the Boys and Girls club.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Gloria Golding Phillips; two daughters, Linda Hambric and husband Carroll, and Cheryl Brewer and husband Sandy. Grandchildren include Rob Winters and wife Kelli, Jarrod Hambric and wife Brandy, Cara Cates and husband Aaron, and Zack Brewer. Great Grandchildren, Lindsey Kate & Lily Winters, Ethan & Preslee Hambric, and Kali & Jillian Cates. Brother and sister-in-laws are Alyce and Charles Smothers, and Bill and Ann Golding. Also, a host of nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Saline Boys and Girls Club or to Habitat for Humanity of Saline County.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Ashby Funeral Home Chapel.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Ten Mile Missionary Baptist Church on Highway 70 with Revs. Wesley Howard and Terry Parish officiating. Private graveside will follow at Phillip’s Cemetery near Lono.
