The Benton Lady Panthers outscored the Little Rock Fair Lady War Eagles 75-11 in three matches to win their sixth straight match after starting the season 0-2. Benton won 3-0 (25-3, 25-1, 25-7) in its most lopsided match of the season and improved to 3-0 in the 7A/6A South. The Lady Panthers’ junior varsity also had little trouble defeating Fair’s JV, winning 2-0 (25-5, 25-10).
“Fair is just not where they need to be,” Benton Coach Brandy Chumley said. “We’re working on clicking on offense a little bit and those were good games to work on that. I thought we did pretty well.”
Junior Xandra Lock had 11 aces in Game 2 alone and was the Lady Panthers’ only server of the set. Benton (6-2, 3-0 7A/6A South) was led by senior Alex Williams in kills with seven and was followed by junior Allison Reynolds (six), junior Xandra Lock (three) and sophomore Ashlie Dintleman (three). Junior Courland Kaufholtz had five aces and senior setter Sarah Carter had three aces in the match.
Despite their low level of competition on Tuesday, the Lady Panthers didn’t play down and will face a much more accomplished opponent when they travel to Texarkana to face the Lady Razorbacks today.
“We have a big game [today] at Texarkana,” Chumley said. “They’re always real athletic. Normally with them, if you start off blocking, they’ll look to tip. I’m hoping to start off strong.”
For the JV squad, sophomore Taylor Lindberg led the Benton with four kills, sophomore Braxton Chumley followed with three and sophomores Kiyonda Fisher, Morgan Henry and Jade Griffin each had one. Fisher had four aces in the match, and sophomore Nakiya Baxter and Lindberg each had three. Sophomore libero Kendall Meadors had four digs with limited opportunities with the lack of competition.
