The Benton Panther boys golf team followed in the footsteps of the girls team to end the season. The Panthers won the 6A South conference on Monday and then took third in the State Tournament on Tuesday. Playing at El Dorado Country Club, the Panthers edged the home team by three strokes winning with a score of 313. El Dorado followed with at 316, Sheridan (319), Texarkana (337), Lake Hamilton (342) and Siloam Springs (344).
"We had a great week," Benton Coach Chad Pitts said. "We won the conference and finished third overall. I couldn't be anymore proud of the boys."
Benton took third in the State Tournament with a score of 631. Favorite Jonesboro won State with a 599 and Russelville was runner-up with a score of 618. Senior Austin Eoff led the way for the Panthers shooting a 3-over 75 on Monday and a 1-under 71 on Tuesday to take fourth overall in State. Senior Coulton Lee followed Eoff with a 78 on Day 1 and a 79 on Day 2.
"Coulton Lee had a tremendous week shooting some of the best scores in his career and finishing 10th overall individually," Pitts said ."Austin was disappointed with his play, but he has had a remarkable high school career. I am proud of the seniors and the whole team. Austin Eoff and Coulton Lee both made all conference. Austin was also named all state. The boys were able to play great and add a conference championship to go along with the girls."
Senior Keith hammer shot a 79 on the first day and an 83 the second, senior Cameron Treece shot an 81 band an 85, and freshman Sam Eddington shot an 81 and a 91.
"Everyone of them stepped up and played great golf for two days," Pitts said.
