A Saline County resident is in critical condition and a Benton man has been arrested after a motorcycle crash early Friday, authorities said.
Lt. Kevin Russell, public information officer for the Benton Police Department, said about 12:30 a.m. officers responded to the north service loop of Alcoa Road for a report of a motorcycle accident. The driver, 40-year-old John Bunton of Benton, reportedly fled the scene on the motorcycle, leaving the passenger behind.
Russell said the passenger was taken to Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock via Med-Flight and as of press time remains in critical condition. He said the name of the passenger is "being withheld pending notification of family about the situation."
Bunton later wasspotted by officers on Shelby Drive in the Heritage Farms subdivision. Bunton reportedly had a gun and threatened to harm officers or himself "if he wasn’t left alone."
"Officers were able to successfully talk (Bunton) out of harming anyone and he was taken into custody without further incident," Russell noted.
As of press time, Bunton remains in the Saline County jail under a $250,000 sheriff's bond and faces three counts of aggravated assault, leaving the scene of an injury accident, felony fleeing, DWI and refusal to submit to arrest.
Russell said the investigation is continuing and more charges could be forthcoming for Bunton.
