Richard “Walter” Stafford, 68, of Sherwood passed away Nov. 11, in Sherwood. He was born Feb. 20, 1944, the ninth of ten children of the late James and Verda Stafford.
Rich served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War and earned numerous honors. He graduated from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville and became a lifelong Razorback fan.
He served as director of accounting for Pulaski County Special Schools and worked for the district for 36 years. He was a faithful member of First Assembly of God in North Little Rock, where he served as a leader in the Royal Rangers ministry as well as an usher. Rich’s hobbies included running marathons, playing church softball, yard work and working on cars.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Dianne Stafford, Maude Evelyn Williams, Rebecca Mogle, Gerald Stafford, Edward Stafford and Douglas Stafford.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Carole Stafford of Sherwood; daughters, Shirley Robinson and husband, Charles of Trenton, Mo., Stephanie Dawdy and husband Derek of Racine, Wis; a son, David Stafford and wife Rachel of North Little Rock; siblings Winnie Lester, John Stafford and wife Jene, all of Camden, and Jim Stafford and wife Mary Elizabeth of Little Rock; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 15, at North Little Rock Funeral Home,1921 Main St., with the Rev. Rod Loy and Randy Jumper officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at 11 a.m. in Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery.
Visitation is set from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, at the funeral home.
