Elton Dewayne Shepherd, 55, of Beebe, formerly of Bauxite, passed away Friday, Dec. 7. He was born Nov. 4, 1957, to the late Herman and Mary Shepherd.
Elton graduated from Bauxite High School, where he played football and basketball and ran track. His nickname was “Cool” in school, and he was proud to be a Bauxite Miner.
Elton was a member of First Methodist Church in Beebe. He was a truck driver for more than 25 years, traveling the United States and Canada. Elton was active and dedicated to Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous and Arkansas Conference for Young People in AA for more than 21 years and was very proud of it.
He loved people and was very compassionate. Elton loved his friends, family and grandchildren, always telling them so.
He is survived by the love of his life, wife Donna Shepherd of Beebe; his son, Shawn Curtis of Malvern; a daughter, Gina Jones and husband Nate of Benton; a sister, Rita Shepherd of Bauxite; his mother-in-law, Patricia Mayville of Beebe; seven grandchildren, Tiffany, Brian, Katalina, Samantha, Thanon, Austin and Gregory; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who loved him very much.
A celebration of his life is scheduled for 1 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 15, at Ashby Funeral Home in Benton, with Roger Brown officiating.
Visitation will be held at 5606 Maple St. in Bauxite.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ashby Funeral Home to go toward his funeral expenses.
