
Harmon D. Matthews, 88, of Benton passed away Tuesday, Jan. 1. He was born June 6, 1924, in Donaldson to the late Frank and Eva Mae Matthews.
He was a War World II Army veteran and won the Bronze Star and Oak Leaf Cluster for heroism under fire. Mr. Matthews worked as a driver for Arkansas Best Freight for 30 years. Also, he was a Mason for 60 years.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Helen Matthews of Benton; two daughters, Bridget Hensley and husband Don of Holly Lake Ranch, Texas, and Dinah Johnston and husband Dr. Greg Johnston of Benton; five grandchildren, Brian Hensley and wife Suzanne of Dallas, Texas, Brandy Simmons and husband Alex of McKinney, Texas, Zak and Jacob Johnston of Fayetteville and Jade Johnston of Benton; and three great-grandchildren, Cameran, Brooke and Travis of McKinney, Texas.
Graveside service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5 at Forest Hills Cemetery.
Visitation is set from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, at Ashby Funeral Home.
