Louis A. “Lou” Cyr, of Benton born Oct. 2, 1928, in Pittsfield, Mass., passed away on Feb. 23, at Saline Memorial Hospital Hospice House in Bryant. As a young man, he served in the U.S. Army, and after leaving the service, he worked for Western Electric Company as an engineer. He was involved in the early years of the ICBM Program at Bell Laboratories. He was a Boy Scouts leader and commissioner in the organization. He enjoyed camping with his children and the beautiful sites in the U.S. national parks. He was an active member of Our Lady of Fatima Church, where he served on the school board and parish council and helped to manage the parish trust. "Popalou" enjoyed his basement workshop, where he had one or two of almost every tool known to mankind, and enjoyed listening to classical music.
Married to Carol Wilbers Cyr for 58 years, he was the wonderful father of six children, Leo Cyr; Paul Cyr and wife Paula; Mark Cyr and wife Lavon; Diane Brandt and husband Kelly; Nancy Jacobs and husband Mark; and Janet Cyr and husband Sean Finnegan. He had nine grandchildren, Chris Amani, Brent Cyr, Max Cyr, Alex Cyr, Spencer Finnegan, Lauren Brandt, Beth Cyr, Sydney Cyr, and Olivia Finnegan, who affectionately called him "Popalou."
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 27, at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Benton.
A Rosary service will be held at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 26, at Roller-Ballard Funeral Home in Benton, followed by a visitation from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Saline Memorial Hospital Hospice House, 23157 Interstate 30, Bryant, AR 72022.
