BENTON - The Benton Lady Panthers have been on a tear of late, winning six of their last seven, all coming against 7A/6A South foes. On Monday, Benton traveled to Pearcy to take on the Lady Wolves of Lake Hamilton in a makeup game. With hot bats smoking for Benton, Lake Hamilton’s gloves were rather shaky as Benton romped out to a quick 9-0 lead before winning 10-1.
Stevi Berg led the game off by reaching on an error and later scored on another error, this time with Ashton Currey at the dish. Daphne Bono also scored after following Berg with a single.
Two runs was all Benton could muster in the first two innings combined but pounced in the third, scoring six runs on six singles and another error. Berg, Bono, Korie Parker and Taylor Maxwell put together four straight hits for the Lady Panthers to start the inning. Maxwell’s resulted in an RBI to make it 3-0 Benton. Currey reached on another error which also scored another run.
Jessica Hardig roped an RBI single to make it 5-0, followed by Herbie Herbner, who thumped a two-RBI single from the nine hole to give Benton a commanding 8-0 lead. Herbner later scored on another Lady Wolves’ error.
Benton scored one more run in the top of the sixth to make it 10-1.
Jessica Franklin kept things under control from the pitcher’s circle, allowing just five hits and giving up a single run. She also walked three and struck out three in the win.
Bono led the Lady Panthers at the plate, going 2 for 4 with three runs scored.
Lake Hamilton committed seven errors leading to five Benton runs.
With the win, Benton moves to 16-5 overall on the year and 6-1 in conference play. The Lady Panthers begin the second half of the conference season Friday when they welcome cross-county rival Bryant to Lady Panther Field. Benton won 16-1 during the team’s first meeting this season. Friday’s first pitch is set for 5 p.m.
