BRYANT – The Bryant Hornets soccer team wasted little time in dispensing of the JA Fair War Eagles 9-0 in 7A/6A South conference play on Friday at Hornets Stadium.
Junior Bryce Denker scored five goals in the win, the second time this season Denker has scored five goals in a game. But Denker didn’t start the game with a goal. It was an assist to senior Cameron Furton from Denker at the 36:14 mark of the first half that got the scoring started.
From then on, it didn’t take long for the Hornets (14-2-1, 8-1) to lower the boom. Roughly a minute later, sophomore Dylan Wolf scored on an assist from junior Blake Reed, and about 25 seconds later, Denker took a pass from Wolf for the first of his five consecutive goals.
Leading 3-0, Denker got assists from junior Corey Laisure, junior Evan Caddy and junior Bryan Oldham before scoring his last goal on his own. Caddy would score the last two goals, the final one to make it 9-0 with an assist from senior Francisco Zamora.
Up next for the Hornets will be the Sheridan Yellowjackets, which Bryant beat 7-1 in the teams’ previous meeting.
“Anytime you beat somebody like that, they’re bound to be ready for you the next time,” Bryant Coach Jason Hay said of Sheridan. “We have to go there. They’ll be playing better at home. They’ve had some close games. We’re not going to take anyone lightly.”
Bryant will play Sheridan on Thursday beginning with the junior varsity boys at 4 p.m. Varsity girls and boys follow.
