Edgar E. Johnston, 69, of Haskell passed away Friday, July 5, 2013. at the Arkansas Heart Hospital in Little Rock.
He was born Sept. 9, 1943 in Ogdensburg, N.Y., to the late J. Edgar and Marjorie Stevenson Johnston.
Ed had retired after working 33 years for Entergy. He also worked for H & R Block as a tax preparer. He grew up on a dairy farm, picked up the nickname “Peanut” and was a state wrestling champ at one time.
He graduated from Louisiana Tech with an electrical engineering degree and was a communication specialist in the U.S. Air Force. Ed loved camping, Razorbacks football, country music and dancing, and spoiling his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Jim Carlisle.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Sue Johnston of Haskell; two sons, Robert Joseph Johnston and wife Kay Lynn of Whitehall and Richard Johnston of Pine Bluff; five daughters, Dawn M. McNeice of Pine Bluff, Laurel E. Gunn and husband Zach of Pangburn, Tammy Akines and wife, Arlin of Star City, and Becky Carlisle of Haskell; two sisters, Donna Sharland and husband Steve of Ogdensburg, N.Y., and Ellen Vigus and husband Richard of Forest Hill, Md.; a niece, Lisa; a nephew, Billy; grandchildren, Andy (Jane), Trina (Jeremy), Caitlin, Aaron, Maison, Adam and Noah; great-grandchildren, Lina, Sara and Taylor; great-great-grandchildren, Zoey and Kiley; and many friends.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 7, at his home, 402 Dodson Creek Road in Haskell. The Revs. Dennis Owens and Mike Brogen will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Ed’s honor made be made to the American Cancer Society, 901 North University Ave., Little Rock, AR 72207.
