Calvin Douglas Phillips, 101, passed away Wednesday, July 3, 2013, in Mena.
He was born Oct. 21, 1911, in Lillie, La., to the late David Mathew Phillips and the late Sarah Martindale Phillips. He was a longtime resident of El Dorado, a veteran and a supervisor for Monsanto Chemical for many years.
Calvin was a loving father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend to all who knew and loved him. He will be dearly missed by all.
He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Sarah Phillips; his wife, Lessie Bates Phillips; four brothers, Woody Phillips, Prather Phillips, JK Phillips and Crawford Phillips; one sister, Alta Munford; two half-sisters, Zora Platt and Artie Doss; a half-brother, Leo Phillips; and one great-great-grandson, Randall Smith Jr.
He is survived by a son, Alan D. Phillips Sr. and wife Pat of Mena; two daughters, Arlene Porter and husband Jack of Alexander and Ramona Phillips and husband Eric Miller of Las Vegas; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and eight nieces and nephews who helped him celebrate many birthdays.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 8, at Craig Cemetery at Hibank near El Dorado with Brother Jack Porter officiating. Grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers.
