Saline County residents may now access records from all county offices — the County Judge, Circuit Clerk, Tax Assessor, Tax Collector and County Clerk — in one place online at www.salinerecords.org . (The web address was incorrectly identified in a previous edition of the Courier.)
The county is calling it a "one-stop shop," and Saline County is the first in Arkansas to offer this, said Jim Harris, chief of staff for the Circuit Clerk's office.
Harris said many people don't know which office to go to for marriage licenses, divorce licenses, land records, etc. "A lot of people don't know the difference between the Tax Assessor and the Tax Collector," he said.
Instead of having to look around to find the right office that houses the records needed, the searching system will be flipped.
Residents will be able to type in what kind of records they need and it will take them to the appropriate office's site.
"This will add to the transparency of county government and make it more user friendly," Harris said.
The new system will be in operation on Thursday.
In addition, land records now will be available on the county website for free, whereas previously residents had to pay for the information from a third party.
