The Toys for Tots Caravan project that was set to leave Benton on Saturday has been canceled due to the chance of inclement weather.
Plans announced for 10th annual Toys for Tots project
The 10th annual Toys for Tots caravan will leave the Benton area on Dec. 7 en route for Toy Hill in North Little Rock.
George Beyers of George Beyers Co. is the local coordinator for the project.
Beyers said the event is open to "any and all antique, vintage, classic, exotic, hot rod, street rod, low rider, street machine cars, trucks and specialty vehicles."
All clubs and individuals are invited, Beyers said.
"Starting at 8 a.m. the caravan will assemble on the old Saline County Airport runway behind Holland Chapel Baptist Church at 15523 Interstate 30 (Exit 116)," he said.
Beyers said the procession will depart at exactly 10 a.m. with parting at Arkansas State Police and Saline County sheriff's deputies as escorts.
"The the caravan will travel to Toy Hill, in front of the Clear Channel Metroplex, at Interstate 430 and Col. Glenn Road in Little Rock," he noted.
"Join the free fun, food, excitement and entertainment of the event," Beyers said.
During the event, participants are advised to listen to Bob Robbins from 5 to 10 a.m. on KSSN FM 96 or go to kssn.com for the latest announcements and updates.
Beyers said the cost to participate is "one new, unwrapped toy that costs $10 or more."
No advance registration is required, Beyers said. "All you have to is just show up," he said.
After donating the toys, vehicles may be displayed in the parking lot for any length of time, he said.
"It is suggested that participating clubs have a banner or door decals for recognition by spectators," Beyers said.
