BAUXITE - The Miner varsity girls of Bauxite, led by coach Joshua Harrison, took on the Panthers of Ashdown on Friday Dec. 20, in a highly contested matchup involving speedy hands and terrific posting. The Lady Miners took an early lead and never let up, out-hustling the Lady Panthers for the entire 32 minutes of play. The final was 45-36 Bauxite for the Lady Miners’ first 7-4A Conference victory.
The first eight minutes began with Bauxite (5-3, 1-1 7-4A) junior Holly Willmon scoring the first two points for the Lady Miners with a quick post play. Willmon would then get Bauxite’s second score with an assist from Rachel Haley. Allison Tackett then got the Lady Miners their first 3-point bucket of the night from the right corner. At the 2:50 mark, Bauxite’s Ashley Eisenhauer displayed terrific reflexes to quickly reach in and make her first steal of the game. Eisenhauer then showed that she could also pass well when she assisted Holly Willmon for a score. The score at the half was 26-22 in favor of Bauxite.
The Lady Panthers would make a final run at the Lady Miners during the fourth period of play pulling to within three points at the 4:43 mark. Great team play between Eisenhauer and Willmon, and another 3-point shot by Allison Tackett quickly thwarted the Panthers late rush. Eisenhauer made another steal of the Panthers inbound pass ending this contest.
When asked if he was proud of the way his team played, Coach Harrison responded, “The girls continue to play with great intensity and teamwork and have improved.”
Willmon finished with a double-double 15 points and 10 rebounds, Tackett had 13 points and six rebounds and Eisenhauer had 7 points, five rebounds and four steals.
The team will practice during the break in preparation for the Clinton Christmas Classic next week.”
