ASHDOWN – The Bauxite Miners defeated the Ashdown Panthers 58-50 on the road to snap a five-game losing streak in 7-4A Conference play on Tuesday.
“We started off kind of slow,” Bauxite Coach Andy Brakebill said. “The body language was kind of iffy. It’s one of those deals you lose five in a row and your confidence is shaken. It was almost like, ‘Oh no, here we go again.’ We finally got to clicking a little bit better.”
The Miners (9-10, 3-6 7-4A) would pick it up in the second quarter forcing turnovers off their press, junior Ben Madison would get two dunks to energize the team and Bauxite would take a 32-21 lead into halftime.
Bauxite would score first in the second half to take a 13-point lead and would push it to 17 points before the Panthers fought back to get the lead under double digits.
“That’s a hard place to play,” Brakebill said. “The atmosphere is [intense]. It gets loud in there. Anytime you go down to Ashdown and you come out of there with a win, with conference, that’s a big win. It’s moving us back in the right direction.”
Madison led the Miners with 35 points, senior Ian Allred had nine, senior Hunter Holder had six and junior Bradly McCool had five points.
Bauxite takes on the Robinson Senators in Little Rock on Friday.
The Miners beat Robinson 68-48 in Bauxite in early January.
