Betty Jo Hanvey

Betty Jo Hanvey, 79 of Benton, passed into absolute glory, Thursday, July 24, 2014. We thank her for her steadfast love and we honor her for living a life full of faith, not just to her family, but to the countless many who crossed her path. Most of all, we give honor and glory to Jesus for her life. He, after all, is the One who gave her the gift of salvation, the grace to walk in it, the love to share it, and the strength to persevere through it. Jesus was and still is the very essence of Betty and if you had the pleasure of knowing or meeting her, you'll find she graciously left that wonderful legacy to us all.
Betty was born to James H Carodine and Inez Weise Carodine, in Saline County on Jan. 5, 1935 and married Bobby G Hanvey on November 4,1954. Betty served 35 years with Benton Utilities-City of Benton, retiring in 1999 as Personnel Manager. A member of Highland Heights Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for several years.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents, husband, step-father Jim Ryburn, son Garry, daughter in law Paula Tremor Hanvey, granddaughter Joy Hanvey and two step-brothers James and Joe Ryburn.
She is survived in life by sister Sue with husband Seth Ruff of Harrison, daughter Cindi with husband Rich Elder of Normangee, Texas, grandson Justin Hanvey with wife Naomi of Moses Lake, Wa, granddaughter Beth with husband Jeffery McGee of Hilltop Lakes, Texas, daughter in law Gina Hanvey of Virginia Beach, Va, and many loving cousins, nieces and nephews. Betty is also survived by step brothers John Paul Ryburn with wife Pat of Grove, Ok, and Don Ryburn with wife Charlotte of Mena. Step sisters Jean Ann Wayne of Peoria, Az, Faye Jones of Benton, Mary Jones of Malvern, and step sister in law Florence Ryburn of Little Rock.
Celebration of Betty's life will be 3 p.m. Saturday, July 26 at Ashby Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Brian Moore and Bro. Bob Stuckey of Highland Heights Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be at Mt Harmony Cemetery, with no graveside service. Pall bearers are Jeffery McGee, Eli Fowlkes, Greg Naramore, Jamie White, James Smallwood, and Roger Lacy. Honorary pall bearers are Tommy Adams, Joe Naramore, and Martin Feeny.
Visitation will be 2 to 3 p.m. before the funeral service.
