Comeback falls short

BRYANT – The Bryant Lady Hornets fell 8-6 to the Lake Hamilton Lady Wolves in 7A/6A South conference action on Friday at Lady Hornets Field. Bryant was down 7-2 in the fifth inning, but couldn’t complete the comeback in the bottom of the seventh.
The Lady Wolves jumped on the Lady Hornets (10-9, 6-4 South) in the first inning plating three run in the top half. Bryant responded with a run in the bottom half when junior Katy Stillman scored on a passed ball.
Sophomore Sydney Gogus hit a one-out single in the bottom of the third and sophomore Mercedes Dillard courtesy ran for her. Dillard would later score on senior Carly Yazza’s single to centerfield to make it a 3-2 Lake Hamilton lead. But, the Wolves responded with three more runs in the top of the fourth and one in the fifth to go up by six runs, 7-2.
Junior Kayla Jolley would make it 7-3 when she hit a home run to centerfield with two outs in the bottom of the fifth.
The Lady Hornets would score three runs in the last inning and had the tying runners on base, but Bryant couldn’t finish the comeback.
Jolley started for the Lady Hornets and gave up seven runs (five earned) on eight hits through five innings. She walked three and struck out four. Sophomore Jordan Williams gave up an unearned run the final two innings, giving up a hit and striking out four without a walk.
Jolley shined at the plate going 2 for 4 with 2 RBI and a run. Gogus went 2 for 4 with an RBI, freshman Shayla McKissock went 1 for 2, and Stillman, junior Breanna Sanders and sophomore Alex Taylor each went 1 for 3. Yazza went 1 for 4 with an RBI.
