The Bauxite Lady Miners snapped a three-game skid Tuesday on the road with a 50-23 blowout of the Arkansas Baptist Lady Eagles in 4A/3A District action in Little Rock.
“We pulled out the win,” Bauxite Coach Joanna Scott said. “I thought we played really hard. Our effort was much better Tuesday than against CAC (a 48-19 loss). Our goal defensively is to hold them to under 25 points and they got 23 so I was proud of our defense.”
Bauxite junior Destiny McClain scored seven points in the first quarter to help put the Lady Miners (11-8, 6-4) up 15-8, but it was the defense in the second quarter which really broke the game open. Bauxite held Baptist to just two points and took a 30-10 lead at the break as senior Shelby Chavers scored 10 points in the second quarter.
The Lady Miners would outscore the Lady Eagles every quarter on their way to the rout.
Eagles 71,
Miners 52
The Bauxite Miners suffered theirs second straight loss Tuesday against a very good Arkansas Baptist Prep team. The Eagles would take the Miners down 71-52 in 4A/3A District action in Little Rock.
Down just 11-9 after one quarter, the second quarter was unkind to the Miners (13-6, 6-4) as they couldn’t finish shots and were down 28-17 at the break.
“I thought there were some big momentum breaks in the game,” Bauxite Coach Andy Brakebill said. “They were full-court pressing us and there were several times we would break the press, go for a shot and they would block our shot. We didn’t get points or hurt them when we broke their press. And there were a couple times we dropped passes and just didn’t punish them when we broke their press.”
The Eagles (18-4, 11-0) would push their lead to 48- 32 after three quarters and outscored the Miners 23-20 in the fourth. The Eagles are a top 15 team in the state but the Miners haven’t been playing well lately.
The Miners road doesn’t get any easier as they go to Nashville on Thursday to play the Scrappers in a game which will got toward seeding for the district tournament. Bauxite is 1-1 so far in those games, falling to Ashdown and beating Mena, and Nashville is their final chance at a good seed.
