NLR sweeps Benton in final regular season game

In the final regular season game, North Little Rock High School swept Benton High School in volleyball 3-0 (11-25, 16-25, 18-25) Thursday night.
“We just didn’t play very well,” coach Brandy Chumley said. “Our heads weren’t in the game and we couldn’t get anything going.”
In game one, senior Kristen Ryan and junior Alex Williams had a kill. In the second game, the Lady Panthers had six kills including two from Ryan.
Williams, Hayely Ferguson, Erin Jackson, and Allison Reynolds all had one kill. In the third game, Benton had nine kills including three from Williams.
Ferguson, a senior, had two, Morgan had one and Reynolds had two. Junior Sarah Carter had one ace.
“[North Little Rock] is a very good team,” Chumley said. “They are very aggressive and we were not ready for some reason.
“It was a good wake up call. We have to be ready before the game even starts.”
Chumley said this will be the same type of competition they will seer in the state tournament.
“You have to earn a win, it is not going to be given to you,” Chumley said. “We got to start the game aggressive.
“We dug a hole, and had a hard time getting out of it. We couldn’t get anything going.”
The Benton Lady Panthers finished the season 16-9 (10-2 6A South). They will play in the state tournament on Tuesday in Mountain Home at noon. More than likely, they will face Jacksonville.
North Little Rock defeated Benton junior varsity 2-0 (25-23, 25-17).
