According to an audio message sent to parents in the Benton School District today, a threat was made late Thursday regarding Benton Junior High School.

In an Instagram post shared with The Saline Courier, a juvenile threatened to bring a gun to school and shoot teachers and students.
"Ima shoot all y'all (expletive) for tryna get me in f***** trouble," the post said.
The Benton Police Department is currently investigating the incident, but would not confirm the social media post.

According to BNPD, the juvenile was taken into custody about 45 minutes after the threat was made. The juvenile has since been turned over to the custody of juvenile officers.
"BNPD thanks all who shared valuable information that resulted in curtailing the potential threat, as the safety of our children is paramount," said Krista Petty, spokesperson for BNPD.

Dr. Mike Skelton, superintendent of the district, said that there is no reason to be alarmed at this time.
“We have been made aware of a threat that is being dealt with by the district and the Benton Police Department. The threat has been removed and is under control at this time,” Skelton said in his recorded message.
