Art in the Park, an event for children ages 3 to 12, returns to downtown Benton beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday.
Benton Parks and Recreation has made significant strides to be as inclusive as possible over the past few years. From Miracle League to Wheelchair Basketball, the department wants to be sure everyone has a chance to participate in their events.
“The idea of this event is to have everybody come out and let their creativity and imagination roam and have an inclusive art event,” said Special Events Coordinator Kaleb Turner.
Art in the Park will be held at the Downtown Benton Farmers Market, 125 W. Ashley Street.
This is a sensory-friendly and inclusive event for participants of all ability levels and sensory needs.
Turner said they didn’t have this event last year but they have in the past and they have received good turnouts for it. The event is different this year though because in the past it was mainly focused on children with disabilities but this year they opened the event up to participants of all ability levels.
The local art studio, Studio 1720, will lead the sessions and help the kids design a spring-themed wooden canvas. Studio 1720 is located in Downtown Benton at 110 E. South Street and is a popular place to organize paint parties in the community.
All supplies will be provided at this event. The only thing those interested need to do is register and pay the $25 fee for the event online through the Benton Parks and Recreation activity page.
To register or get more information, call the River Center front desk at 501-776-5970 or by e-mail the Benton Parks and Recreation special events team at parks@bentonar.org.
While spots are limited, there are still a few remaining before this Friday’s fun-filled event.
Sponsors for the event include AAROC’s Autism Alliance of Saline County, Horton’s Orthotics and Prosthetics, Civilian Services, Friendship Pediatric Services, Special Olympics Arkansas, Kidsource Therapy, Community Connects and the Grow! Learning Center.
